Democrats are losing the shutdown argument. Their argument of course is that the Republicans are shutting down the government. I wouldn't expect them to blame themselves, but they are technically at fault whether they like it or not. Republicans cannot logically be blamed for shutting down any part of the government (85% of which is still open) other than ObamaCare, because the budgets they have passed continue to fund all other functions of government. The Democrats have voted down those bills. Period.
Because Democrats cannot win on substance, they are now resorting to name calling. There is nothing inherently wrong with name calling unless the aspersions being cast are inaccurate. In this case they are.
Let's go through a few examples of dishonest name calling being used against Republicans. We'll see how the real definitions match up with their usage (since these are adjectives, the definition of the corresponding noun will be used) :
TERRORIST
I'm guessing they think a filibuster is some sort of explosive device. Or maybe they are confusing Ted Cruz for a cruise missile."the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims"
ANARCHIST
Considering the Constitution established a bigger government than the Articles of Confederation authorized, its hard to imagine how wanting to constrain the federal government within the Constitution constitutes being an anarchist."absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual, regarded as a political ideal"
ARSONIST
I'm guessing the fire originated from a fuel leak in the cruise missile."the criminal act of deliberately setting fire to property"
TRAITOR
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."This is the definition from the Constitution. The great irony here is that the Founding Fathers had deliberately limited the scope of the treason clause in order to protect political minorities. They had experienced the tyranny of arbitrary treason and took steps to prevent it. Of course, we would never expect Democrats to actually read the Constitution, let alone research the history and context surrounding it.
Hopefully most Americans understand this kind of language is crazy and punish the Democrats for it accordingly in 2014.
liberal statement of the day: healthcare is a human right. it should be the fourth inalienable right.
